Why We’re Now Charging for Shipping
If you've shopped with Boil & Broth for a while, you may notice a change to the way we charge for delivery.
We are now charging shipping on all orders placed through our website.
We know nobody particularly enjoys paying for postage, so we wanted to explain why we've made this change and why we believe it's ultimately the fairest way for us to price our products.
The Real Cost of Shipping
For many years, we've absorbed or subsidised a significant proportion of the cost of sending orders to our customers.
But shipping isn't free.
Every parcel we send has a genuine cost attached to it – from the courier charge itself to packaging materials, boxes, labels and the time involved in carefully picking and packing your order.
Like many small British businesses, we've also seen these costs increase considerably over the past few years.
Rather than continually absorbing these costs or increasing our product prices to compensate, we've decided to separate the two.
You pay for the products you buy, and you pay separately for the service that delivers them to your door.
We think that's simpler, clearer and fairer.
Why Not Just Offer "Free Shipping"?
The reality is that free shipping is very rarely free.
Someone still has to pay the courier.
For a business offering "free delivery", that cost is usually incorporated somewhere else – most commonly within the price of the products themselves.
We don't want to increase the price of every product simply so that we can advertise free shipping.
This is particularly important for customers who place larger orders. If delivery costs are built into individual product prices, a customer buying several products could effectively contribute towards shipping several times over.
By keeping our product and delivery prices separate, you can see exactly what you're paying for.
Keeping Our Product Prices Fair
Boil & Broth is a small, family-run British manufacturer.
We make our products here in Dorset, and a huge amount of work goes into producing them – from sourcing our ingredients and manufacturing our bone broths to dehydrating, grinding, packing and finally dispatching them to our customers.
Our priority is to continue producing the best products we possibly can while keeping our prices fair.
Charging separately for delivery allows us to put the price of manufacturing where it belongs – in the product – and the cost of delivering it where that belongs – in the shipping charge.
Supporting a Small British Business
When you order from Boil & Broth, you're supporting a small independent British business, British manufacturing and a real team of people behind every order.
We don't have the enormous distribution networks or buying power of the major online retailers. Every parcel has a real cost to send, and absorbing thousands of individual delivery charges throughout the year simply isn't sustainable for a business of our size.
Charging for shipping means we can continue investing in our manufacturing, our products and our team rather than continually absorbing increasing courier costs.
Thank You for Supporting Boil & Broth
We completely understand that paying for delivery isn't the exciting part of placing an order!
But we believe being transparent about what things actually cost is better than quietly increasing product prices or hiding delivery costs elsewhere.
So when you order from us, you'll see your products and your shipping charge separately.
Simple, transparent and fair.
Most importantly, it allows us to continue doing what we've done from the beginning – making great products here in Britain and getting them safely from our family business to yours.
Thank you, as always, for supporting Boil & Broth.
